a new infrastructure: innovative transit solutions for los angeles
competition entry
2009
This competition entry imagines a transportation network evolving and expanding our mobility using information technologies, by repurposing streets and highways when 'peak demand' is over and stacking modes of transport vertically.
In the case study zone of Venice Boulevard and the Expo Line (unbuilt as of this proposal) a distributed network of 'light mobility' systems – rented bicycles and small electric vehicles – support the heavy infrastructure of the train line while another distributed network of 'locative media' - information and electronic communication hubs – make non-mobility an equally viable and increasingly important option for our city.
